For-profit small businesses operating in the United States. The business must meet SBA size standards (varies by industry, generally under $7.5M average annual receipts for most sectors), demonstrate a need for credit, and have reasonable owner equity to invest. Startups are eligible with a solid business plan.

Working capital, inventory, equipment purchase or lease, business acquisition, real estate (owner-occupied), refinancing certain existing debt, and short-term seasonal working capital. Funds cannot be used for investment real estate, lending, or passive activities.

The SBA guarantees a portion of the loan (typically 85% for loans up to $150K and 75% above) issued by an SBA-approved lender. Maximum guarantee exposure is capped, and the SBA 7(a) Small Loan stream covers requests of $350K or less with a streamlined process.

Loans over $25K generally require collateral where available and a personal guarantee from owners holding 20% or more of the business. Loans of $25K or under may be unsecured, at the lender's discretion.

SBA guarantees on loans above $150K carry an upfront fee (roughly 2%–3.75% depending on size and term). Prepayment penalties apply only on longer-term loans paid off early. Approval typically runs 2–6 weeks with complete documentation.
